♥️🫖 Have You Heard of Puerh Tea? 📚🌿

Are you familiar with a type of tea called Puerh? It’s pronounced pooh-air. Puerh is a half-fermented black tea from China’s Yunnan province with a rich history dating back over 1,700 years.

Puerh has a unique earthy and robust flavor that improves with age. Depending on the type of puerh and the desired flavor, it can be aged for a few months to several years, offering a diverse range of taste profiles.

There are two types of puerh: raw puerh and ripe puerh.

Raw puerh tea is pressed into cakes and aged in a controlled environment. The aging process can take as little as a few months to a few years or even a decade or more. I’ve heard of some that have been aged as much as 50 years! And yes, they say it tastes delicious even after that long.

A great example of raw puerh tea is my Dark Heart. It’s pressed into sweet, heart-shaped cakes. If you brew this tea to the shorter end of the steep time, you will taste rose, but if you steep it to the longer end, puerh will taste more like a robust black tea with just a hint of rose at the finish.

Ripe puerh tea uses a process called wet-piling. In this process, loose tea leaves are piled and sprayed with water, then left to ferment in a hot, humid space for 2–7 weeks.

Puerh tea is not only delicious but also packed with exceptional health benefits. Here are some of them.

  1. Puerh may improve digestion: Puerh tea is fermented, increasing the presence of probiotics. These beneficial bacteria aid in digestion and can help promote a healthy gut.
  2. Puerh can boost metabolism and aid in weight loss: Puerh tea can improve metabolism because it contains caffeine, which may help burn fat.
  3. Puerh may lower cholesterol: Studies have shown that puerh tea can lower LDL (bad cholesterol) levels while increasing HDL (good cholesterol) levels, potentially reducing the risk of heart disease.
  4. Puerh may detoxify your body: Puerh tea has antioxidant properties that may help cleanse your body by removing toxins and free radicals.
  5. Puerh may enhance mental alertness and focus: Puerh tea contains a moderate amount of caffeine, which provides a gentle energy boost but without the jittery feeling often associated with coffee. It may also improve mental alertness.
  6. Puerh supports the immune system: Puerh is anti-inflammatory and rich in antioxidants, which may help strengthen the immune system and protect against illnesses.
  7. Puerh may help regulate blood sugar levels: Puerh tea has been shown to help regulate blood sugar levels, making it helpfull for those with diabetes or pre-diabetes. It may also improve insulin sensitivity, which is crucial for maintaining healthy blood sugar levels.
  8. Puerh may promote healthy skin: Puerh tea contains antioxidants that may combat free radicals, help detoxify the skin, reduce acne, promote a clearer complexion, and slow down the aging process. And who’s not for that?
