π 10 Health Benefits of Black Tea π
Posted by Dani Noto on
Did you know that black tea has numerous health benefits?
It provides powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties that our bodies love. Plus, it tastes great!
I love black tea!
It's what I grew up drinking and still enjoy daily. It's popular worldwide, too. The high polyphenol content in black tea (think antioxidants to boost your immune system) may help benefit your heart, brain, blood sugar, oral and gut health.
Research suggests that consuming three or more cups of black tea each day may be linked to a reduced risk of various chronic diseases.
Incorporating black tea into your daily routine can be a simple yet effective way to help improve your overall well-being.
Here are 10 reasons to drink black tea:
1. Nutritious
Black tea contains significantly less caffeine than a cup of coffee.
It is also rich in six groups of polyphenols and minerals your body just loves. Plus, black tea is delicious.
I carry over 55 varieties of black tea, so there's something for everybody's tastebuds.
Especially in the mornings, my favorites are Imperial Breakfast, Dark Heart, Irish Breakfast, Organic Royal Golden Goddess, and Earl Grey Creme de la Creme.
2. Antioxidant Properties
The research shows that within 30 to 60 minutes after drinking a glass or cup of black tea, your body's antioxidant capacity increases, helping it fight free radicals that can lead to chronic disease.
3. Alertness and Cognitive Function
Need to be alert, concentrate, or increase your brain function?
Black tea can be the answer. There have been studies and research that indicate regular black tea consumption can lead to a 29% reduction in the risk of developing dementia, especially among women. Some evidence also suggests that black tea may reduce short-term and long-term memory issues.
4. Digestive Health
How's your gut microbiome doing?
I'm always looking for ways to support my gut and all the little bugs that live there to be the healthiest they can be. Research shows that maintaining a healthy gut contributes to our overall well-being.
Emerging studies suggest that the daily consumption of black tea may enhance the diversity in your gut bacteria and help the good bugs flourish.
5. Blood Sugar Control
Polyphenols in black tea may improve the body's insulin sensitivity, which could help lower blood sugar/glucose levels.
Although more research is needed in this area, I believe that any potential way to reduce the risk of diabetes is always a good thing in my book.
6. Heart Health
Studies indicate that drinking more black tea may help protect against heart disease by lowering cholesterol levels, particularly LDL - the bad one, particularly among individuals with a high risk of heart disease.
7. Dental Plaque
Would you like better oral health?
Black tea has antibacterial properties that help fight dental plaque, which may reduce cavities.
8. Stress
L-theanine is a compound found naturally in black tea that may improve attention and reduce stress.
9. Anti-Inflammatory Effects
Black tea's anti-inflammatory properties may help reduce the effects on various health conditions like heart disease and cancer.
10. Skin Health
Want to reduce wrinkles?
Black tea contains polyphenols with antioxidant properties that can decrease skin damage and inflammation, helping us look younger for longer.
I love black tea and drink it daily, and I hope you'll join me in adding black tea to your daily routine to reap its health benefits. I aim for two to four cups per day.
If caffeine is an issue for you, I suggest enjoying black tea in the morning and switching to a decaffeinated version later in the day.
I have a wide variety of decaffeinated black teas that are delicious! I like Decaf Serene Reflections, Decaf Blueberry Mango Medley, or Decaf Raspberry Ceylon after dinner as a treat.
