Rejuvenate Your Body With Used Tea Leaves

Want to add a little magic to the humdrum of your daily life?

How many times have we joked and said, "Calgon, take me away"?

I've found that I've been saying that a lot lately. I just want to be pampered a bit, even though it's not my birthday or a special occasion.

So, how about we treat ourselves to a Spa Day?

Spa Day

Would you think I was crazy if I said you can also use those soggy tea leaves to harness the power of self-care?

Tea, while not a miracle cure, is loaded with antioxidants and other goodies that my skin and hair, and that of most people, go nuts for!

If drinking tea is as relaxing an experience for you as it is for me, just wait until you start slathering it all over your body; it opens up a whole new world. You can use used tea leaves of any variety – green, black, white, or herbal. Each will provide benefits in its own special way.

Please be mindful of your skin type when choosing what to include in your DIY spa day, especially if you have sensitive skin! But here are a few ideas to get you started.

Face Masks

Face Masks!

Green, white, and herbal teas work really well for the face.

Using the leaves "as-is" straight from your infuser will probably be a little too chunky, so add your used tea leaves to a food processor or blender to crush them up.

Give it a quick blend and add any other ingredients your face might enjoy, such as honey, coconut oil, olive oil, or essential oil.

Blend well and apply to your face for 10 to 20 minutes.

Rinse well with warm water and follow up with a toner or moisturizer, especially if you are using a tea with caffeine, as it can dry out the skin.

Dani's Simple Exfoliating Face Mask

Ingredients:

  • 1 serving of used tea leaves, preferably green, white, or herbal
  • 1 teaspoon of honey (I use local for extra benefits)

Directions:

Blend or chop your tea leaves until they reach a small workable consistency for smoothing on your face. We want small pieces or tiny chunks, as they will aid the exfoliating process. Large chunks will not stick well to your face and will look pretty funny. Combine the tea leaves with honey or other ingredients you would enjoy. Spread it onto your face. After 10-20 minutes, gently rinse your face with warm water. Enjoy your glowing face!

Sugar Scrub

Sugar Scrub!

Mixing your leaves with a couple of tablespoons of sugar and a drizzle of olive oil or melted coconut oil creates a lovely exfoliating scrub.

Not only is it great for sloughing away dead or dry skin, but it's also good for circulation! I wouldn't use it on my face as it's too abrasive, but it works wonders on my hands, feet, lips, elbows – anywhere that might be feeling dry or you just want to feel extra smooth and polished. It's also fantastic as a full-body scrub in the shower.

Dani's Simple Sugar Scrub

Ingredients:

  • 1 serving of used tea leaves of choice
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • Drizzle of olive oil or coconut oil

Directions:

Blend or chop your tea leaves until they reach a small workable consistency. We want small pieces or tiny chunks, as they will aid the exfoliating process. Large chunks won't work well in this recipe. Combine all ingredients. Use this lovely scrub on any non-sensitive area of your body that you'd like to buff and polish! Rinse the areas with warm water after exfoliating, and enjoy your newly soft skin.

Eye Treatment

Eye Treatment!

Forget cucumber slices. Caffeine in black tea is fabulous for reducing puffiness and dark circles under your eyes.

Select leaves that are just moistened, not soggy. Add your favorite tea to a drawstring tea bag and moisten the bag. Get comfy, lie back, and apply to your tired eyes for 10 to 20 minutes. It is soothing and lovely.

Foot Soak

Foot Soak!

Are your dogs barking after a long day on your feet?

Simply toss your used tea leaves into a soaking bowl or tub filled with very warm water, sit back, and enjoy.

For a little extra TLC, follow up with a sugar scrub. Sometimes, if I'm lucky, I can even bribe my husband to give me a foot rub with essential oils or my favorite lotion.

Amazing Self-Care

I think all these things are amazing for self-care, with the bonus of using our used tea leaves for a good purpose.

The recipes are meant to get started on your own DIY Spa journey. Feel free to use these as starting points and add other ingredients your body may like or that sound good to you.
