Green Tea Can Help You Live Longer — Black tea too!

Green Teas

I came across this fascinating study on NutritionFacts.org and wanted to share it with you.

"Within just one hour of drinking a single cup (200ml or 8 ounces) of green tea, we can significantly cut down on the rate of DNA damage in our cells. This is because green tea significantly boosts the activity of a DNA repair enzyme in our body that can fix DNA damage.

Increasing tea consumption by three cups a day may decrease the risk of premature death from all causes put together by 24%, which is the equivalent of adding about two years onto your lifespan. (Adding more than 3 cups a day didn’t increase the benefit though.)

This benefit applies to both green and black tea, though green tea may have a slight advantage."

"Part of this protection may be a lower risk of dying of pneumonia. Five randomized, controlled trials have shown that participants randomized to green tea are about a third less likely to come down with the flu.

And within one month, drinking two small daily cups (400ml or 13.5 ounces) of green tea can improve DNA resistance to free radical damage inthe first place, indicating that green tea has significant genoprotective - that is, DNA-protecting - effects.

Unlike most antiviral drugs, green tea appears to work by boosting the immune system to combat diseases and the flu (caused by the influenza virus)."

Marvelous Mango Green Tea

The study used 3 cups a day as the benchmark and adding more cups didn’t increase the efficacy of tea.

That doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy more but drinking more didn’t factor into a better immune response.

Hot or cold tea didn’t seem to make a difference either so feel free to enjoy it either way and know that you’re doing something wonderful for your body.

Some of my other favorites not pictured that I drink on a regular basis are:

Organic Fit Body Green Tea

I listed my preferences for enjoying these green teas either hot or cold in parenthesis, but there’s no wrong way to drink these delicious teas.

If none of these appeal to you, I have more great choices that you can check out on the website or in the store.

Black tea was also mentioned as being very beneficial and I have a very large selection that you can choose from if you prefer black tea over green tea.

Meanwhile I encourage you to up your health game by enjoying at least 3 cups of green tea daily (or black tea). Your health, family and loved ones will thank you!

Happy Steeping! 😊
