Mythology and Green Tea

I’ve always enjoyed mythology. The tales of Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Athena, Apollo, Artemis, Aphrodite, Hercules, and countless others have always captivated me. I could spend hours reading about their legendary exploits.

But you might be wondering—what does green tea have to do with mythology?

The green tea I’m about to share with you contains apples, which tie it to autumn, mythology, and the two stories I’m excited to tell you.

Drink Green Tea for Your Health!

Greek Myths: The Quest for Golden Apples

Story number one: golden apples—who wouldn’t want to get their hands on some of those?

In ancient mythology, everyone did, because these apples were believed to bestow eternal life.

According to Greek legend, the 11th labor of Hercules required the hero to find the golden apples of the Garden of the Hesperides.

Unfortunately for Hercules, these magical apples were guarded by Ladon, a fearsome hundred-headed dragon who never slept.

Still, Hercules lived up to his legendary status: he defeated the beast and claimed the apples, eventually presenting them to the god Zeus.

Story number two originates from Norse mythology and recounts the theft of golden apples belonging to the gods Loki, Odin, and Thor.

Anyone thinking about the Marvel movies yet?

In this tale, the three gods embark on a journey together. During their travels, Loki is captured by a giant eagle, who demands that Loki hand over the goddess Idun, keeper of the apples.

Like the Greeks, the Norse believed these apples granted eternal life and gave the gods their power.

As you can imagine, Loki’s companions were not thrilled with the situation. In the end, the gods managed to retrieve both Idun and their precious apples, restoring peace.

Can you see why I find these stories so fascinating and why I can spend hours immersed in their tales?

Apple Spice Green Tea

So, which green tea am I talking about?

It’s aptly named Apple Spice Green Tea, featuring green tea, apple pieces, cinnamon, rose, and safflower petals.

This tea brews to a gentle apple flavor with subtle hints of cinnamon—perfect for fall or any time of year, and delicious both hot and cold. I’ve found that the flavor actually deepens as the tea cools. This tea stands on its own, but a touch of honey can really bring out the apples’ sweetness.

I hope you’ve enjoyed these mythological stories. I encourage you to raise a cup of Apple Spice Green Tea to the Greek gods who inspired this post!
