š«The Hidden Secret in Some Tea Bags š«
Posted by Dani Noto on

If youāve been trying to live a healthier lifestyle, hereās something that is definitely worth steeping on.
You might think tea bags are made of simple paper. That's not always the case. You may be sipping on a whole lot more than just tea.
To help tea bags keep their shape and withstand blistering hot water, many commercial tea bag manufacturers use plastic materials like polypropylene or nylon. When those tea bags are steeped in boiling water, tiny plastic particlesācalled microplastics and nanoplasticsācan be released right into your cup.
Scientists are still studying what this means for our long-term health, but I think we can all agree it can't be good. I'd rather have high-quality tea leaves... not plastic in my tea!
The good news?
It is incredibly easy to avoid.
One of the wonderful things about loose-leaf tea is that you are in complete control of what goes into your cup.
Let's talk about a better way to brew!

šThe Optimal Brew: Reusable Stainless Steel Basket Strainers/Infusers
These reusable fine-mesh stainless steel basket strainers are one of my absolute favorite ways to brew tea. In fact, I have multiples at my home so I can brew more than one cup at the same time!
Why I love them:
- Room to grow: They allow your tea leaves plenty of room to expand, "float free," and stretch out. This lets the leaves fully unfurl, creating a much fuller, richer flavor.
- They last forever: Theyāre incredibly durable. Some of mine at home are over 10 years old and still going strong!
- Eco-friendly & easy: They are a breeze to clean and create virtually zero waste.

Best of allāyouāll never have to wonder if plastic is steeping along with your tea.
I carry a variety of fine-mesh stainless steel strainers in different styles and shapes at the shop. Most even come with handy lids that double as drip catchers for when your tea is done steeping.
Itās a simple investment that pays off with every delicious, clean cup.

āļø On the Go? Try Natural Disposable Tea Bags
Now, I know sometimes life gets busy.
If you need something quick and convenient for work, travel, gifts, or hectic mornings, natural disposable tea bags are a fantastic option!
I carry two plastic-free varieties made from unbleached paper with absolutely no added plastics.

The first variety works just like an old-fashioned, fold-over sandwich baggieāI know you remember those! š Just fill the bag with your favorite loose-leaf tea, fold the top over, and you're good to go.
The second variety is a drawstring style. Just cinch the top closed, and whatever you put in the bag stays in the bag! It comes in two sizes: regular and large. The regular is great for single cups or mugs, and the large size is just perfect for making big batches of hot tea or refreshing iced tea.

I absolutely love to take these disposable tea bags on vacation or when Iām traveling.
I pre-fill the bags with my favorite blends before I leave, and Iām ready to hit the road knowing Iāll always have a wonderful tea experience.
I also use these every single day in the store when Iām brewing up fresh cups for customers!
They are a total win/win:
- Convenient and easy to fill.
- Compostable and eco-friendly.
- Great for taking your favorite loose-leaf tea anywhere.
- A wonderful, plastic-free alternative to commercial grocery store bags.
Itās convenience without compromise!
