Did You Know Iced Tea Was an Accident? š¤Æ
Posted by Dani Noto on

June is National Iced Tea Month⦠and honestly, could there be a more refreshing celebration?

As temperatures rise and porch-sitting becomes a competitive sport, thereās nothing quite like a tall glass of iced tea to save the day.
Mark your calendars, because June 10th is National Iced Tea Day.
This means itās officially acceptable to treat yourself to a second, third, or even fourth glass. But whoās counting?
But have you ever wondered how iced tea became such a summertime staple?

The Accidental Birth of Iced Tea
While people had experimented with chilled recipes for years, iced tea truly became famous at the 1904 Worldās Fair in St. Louis.
A tea merchant named Richard Blechynden was offering hot tea samples during an intense summer heatwave⦠and absolutely nobody wanted them.
So, he did what any desperate entrepreneur would do: he poured the hot tea directly over ice.
Suddenly, crowds couldnāt get enough!
One chilly idea later, iced tea became an American summer tradition.
It's proof that sometimes the best inventions happen simply because people are sweaty and cranky!

Why We Love Iced Tea So Much
Iced tea is endlessly customizable.
It can be:
- Sweetened or unsweetened
- Sparkling or still
- Loaded with fresh fruit
- Mixed into creative mocktails
Enjoyed poolside, porch-side, or straight from the fridge while hiding from the heat!
And unlike sugary sodas, tea gives you flavor, antioxidants, and amazing health benefits, offering a refreshing lift without feeling overly heavy.

A Few Summer Favorites
Some teas truly shine when chilled. If you're looking for inspiration this month, here are a few directions you can take your cup:
- Black Teas for classic, Southern-style iced tea
- Green Teas for crisp freshness
- Peach Teas for juicy sweetness (you know I have a peach obsession!)
- Hibiscus Teas for tart, ruby-red refreshment
- Tropical & Fruit Blends for vacation vibes in a glass

Whether you love your iced tea sweet, bold, or fruity, this is the perfect month to explore something new.
Stay tuned for next week, where Iāll be sharing my ultimate guide to the perfect summer brew!
Happy National Iced Tea Month,
~Dani
